SXSW
Aside from designing/crafting, my other big passion is music. When I'm awake and alert, I am pretty much listening to music nonstop. I don't discriminate against any genre and will give all music a chance - I suppose you can say I have musical ADD.
Kathy, a fellow music (especially indie music) fan, and I have been wanting to go to SXSW for years. This year we decided to get off our lazy butts and go.
Here we are on our first day at SXSW - bright-eyed and bushy tailed, not knowing what was in store for us.
We ended up seeing 27 different artists/bands over a span of three days
Thursday, 3/17: Colin Stetson, Yuck, Sondre Lerche, Twin Shadows, Sharon Van Etten, Wye Oak, The Strokes
Friday, 3/18: Ages And Ages, Dead Gaze, Lower Dens, Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger, Cults, James Blake, Toro Y Moi, Andy D, Das Racist
Saturday, 3/19: Baths, Oh Land, Austra, Khaira Arby, James Blake, Trash Talk, The Cool Kids (guest appearance by Asher Roth), Machine Gun Kelly, Killer Mike, Curren$y, Spoek Mathambo, DeYarmond Edison
Here are photos of a few of them: Colin Stetson, Sondre Lerche (my favorite!), Sharon Van Etten, Wye Oak, Ages And Ages, Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger (if you look carefully, you can spot Yoko Ono watching her son perform).

One of the most buzzed-about artists during the festival was James Blake (not the tennis player). Of course, Kathy and I had to see him twice. We were instant groupies. =)

And guess what?! We even took a picture with him. Don't let your eyes deceive you, James Blake is 6'5", Kathy is 5'2", and I'm 5'0".
Some other non-music highlights include spotting Bob Boilen at the NPR party (host of NPR's All Songs Considered - a podcast we both listen to), getting a bunch of free swag (Kathy has a picture of BOTH of us wearing everything hidden away somewhere), and watching Mexican Free-tailed Bats fly from under the Congress Bridge at dusk.

No trip to Austin would be complete without Texas BBQ and Tex Mex. Here are a couple favorites: BBQ pulled pork sandwich from The Jackalope, waffle taco from Lucky J's food truck, and 3-meat platter from Salt Lick.

General consensus? We loved it and had a ton of fun. Would we go again? Definitely.
